Naomi looked directly at the notary. “From coercion,” she said clearly. “From threats. From someone being pressured to sign documents while vulnerable.”
The notary hesitated, eyes darting between Cassandra and Naomi. “Mrs. Hail, if there’s an allegation—”
Naomi’s hands trembled slightly at her sides. But she didn’t back down.
“Then let the law decide,” Naomi said.
Cassandra stepped forward, fury burning through her polish. “You’re fired,” she hissed again. “Leave.”
Naomi took a breath, then did the thing that would have seemed impossible a week ago.
She reached into her pocket and pressed a button.
A small device on the dresser blinked.
Then a voice filled the room.
Cassandra’s voice.
The notary’s eyes widened.
Cassandra went pale.
The recording continued, crisp and undeniable.
I’ll say you’re unfit. I’ll say you’re dangerous…
Cassandra lunged toward the dresser. “Turn that off!”
Naomi stepped between Cassandra and the device like she’d stepped between Cassandra and the twins.
“No,” Naomi said, voice shaking now but still unyielding. “You’ve had enough silence.”
Cassandra’s face twisted, her mask ripping right down the middle. “You think you can ruin me?” she spat at Naomi. “You’re nothing.”
