A Danish politician, Anders Vistisen, who is a Member of the European Parliament (MEP), caused a viral moment when he told U.S. President Donald Trump to “f* off”** during a heated debate in the European Parliament about Greenland’s future. His remarks were delivered on the floor of the EU legislature during a session that included or addressed Trump’s ongoing push to bring Greenland under U.S. control.
The outburst — directed at the U.S. president in English — came in the context of escalating tensions between Washington and Copenhagen over the Arctic territory’s sovereignty.
In his speech, Vistisen forcefully rejected any notion that Greenland — an autonomous region of the Kingdom of Denmark — could be up for negotiation or acquisition. He stressed:
“Greenland has been part of the Danish kingdom for 800 years. It is an integrated country. It is not for sale.”
Then, addressing the U.S. president directly, he said:
“Let me put this in words you might understand: Mr. President, f** off.”*
The language was met with an immediate rebuke from the chamber’s leadership.
🚫 Cut Off and Rebuked
The Vice President of the European Parliament, Nicolae Ștefănuță, interrupted Vistisen almost immediately. He reminded the Danish MEP that using profanity violated the institution’s rules of decorum and was inappropriate for a formal legislative speech.
At that point, Vistisen was cut off and his microphone was effectively silenced, bringing his English remarks to an abrupt end. He continued the remainder of his address in Danish, without further profanity.
Anders Vistisen is a 38‑year‑old Danish politician and member of the European Parliament. He was elected as an MEP to represent Denmark and is associated with right‑wing political movements.
This wasn’t his first time using profanity in a speech directed at Trump about Greenland; he made a similar remark in January 2025 during an earlier debate over the same issue.
