Hollywood Legend Rob Reiner and Wife Michele Singer Reiner Found Dead at Los Angeles Home
A Devastating Double Homicide Shocks the Film World and Beyond
December 14 2025 — Brentwood, Los Angeles, California, U.S. — The entertainment world was rocked last month by the shocking deaths of acclaimed filmmaker Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, 70, whose bodies were found inside their Brentwood residence in what authorities are treating as a double homicide.
Discovery of the Bodies
On the afternoon of Sunday, December 14, a medical aid call prompted first responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department to the upscale Brentwood home where the Reiners lived. Paramedics arrived just after 3:30 p.m. local time and discovered the lifeless bodies of a man and a woman inside the residence.
The couple’s daughter, Romy Reiner, 30, had gone to check on her parents after they missed appointments. Romy entered the home with a roommate and found her father deceased, then fled the house in distress. Emergency services were then called, and Michele’s body was also discovered inside the home.
Police immediately cordoned off the property and the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division took over the investigation, classifying it as an apparently intentional homicide.
Official Cause of Death: Multiple Sharp Force Injuries
Within days, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office released official records confirming the cause of death for both Rob and Michele. The documents listed “multiple sharp force injuries inflicted with a knife” as the cause, and designated the manner of death as homicide.
According to the death certificates:
Reiner died around 3:45 p.m. on December 14.
Both sets of injuries included stab wounds to the throat and other parts of the body consistent with a knife attack.
Both bodies were later cremated and the ashes were entrusted to the care of their eldest son, Jake Reiner.
Suspect Arrested: Son Nick Reiner
Later on the evening of December 14, 32-year-old Nick Reiner, the couple’s son, was arrested by Los Angeles police near the University of Southern California on suspicion of murdering his parents.
Authorities have since filed formal charges against Nick, including:
Two counts of first-degree murder
Use of a dangerous weapon (knife)
Prosecutors allege that Nick inflicted the fatal wounds, but as with all criminal cases in the U.S., he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
Background: The Reiner Family and Public Struggles
Rob and Michele had been married since 1989 and were married for more than three and a half decades. Rob Reiner was a towering figure in Hollywood:
Actor-turned-director of classics such as When Harry Met Sally…, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, Misery, A Few Good Men, This Is Spinal Tap, and more.
Son of legendary entertainer Carl Reiner.
Michele Singer Reiner was a photographer, producer, and LGBTQ+ rights advocate, respected in her own right for her creative contributions and activism.
Their family included three children: Romy, Jake Reiner, and Nick Reiner. Over the years, Nick had struggled with serious drug addiction, mental health issues, and periods of homelessness and rehabilitation, matters that were publicly documented and also served as inspiration for Rob’s semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie (2016), in which he explored his son’s struggles.
Despite ongoing support, Nick’s challenges persisted, and reports indicate that tensions within the family grew in the weeks and months preceding the deadly attack — though investigators have not publicly outlined a definitive motive.
