I. Overview: Incident & Context
On January 7, 2026, Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, was fatally shot by an ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agent during a federal enforcement operation in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The encounter occurred in the hours after she had dropped her child off at school. Federal authorities say the agent fired at the vehicle she was driving; family members and witnesses dispute claims that she posed a threat.
II. Official Autopsy Status
Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office has officially ruled Good’s death a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds inflicted by a law enforcement officer. In medical examiner terminology, “homicide” indicates that the injury was inflicted by another person, but does not itself establish criminal culpability.
As of this summary, the full official autopsy report from the medical examiner has not been publicly released to Good’s family or the media.
Independent Autopsy (Family-Commissioned)
Good’s family, through attorneys at Romanucci & Blandin, commissioned a private independent autopsy conducted by a credentialed medical pathologist to aid in civil investigation and public transparency efforts. Preliminary findings were publicly shared by the family’s legal team.
III. Independent Autopsy Findings: Gunshot Wounds
The independent autopsy, as released by the family’s attorneys, describes the nature, path, and severity of wounds sustained:
Primary Gunshot Wounds
A bullet entered the left side of Good’s head near the temple and exited out the right side of her head. This wound was determined to be fatal.
Left Forearm Wound:
A bullet struck Good’s left forearm, causing soft tissue hemorrhage. This injury was not characterized as immediately life-threatening.
Right Breast Wound:
A bullet traversed the right side of her chest/breast without penetrating any major organs. This wound also was not deemed immediately life-threatening.
Additional Injury
Graze Wound:
Summary: According to the independent autopsy, Good was hit by three clear gunshot wounds and one graze wound, with the head shot being the fatal injury.
IV. Corroborating Emergency Response Reports
Prior to autopsy disclosures, Minneapolis Fire Department and first-responder documentation reported that paramedics encountering Good found:
Good unresponsive and not breathing, with irregular pulse activity.
Multiple gunshot wounds, including to the right chest, left forearm, and possible head injury.
These emergency medical findings are generally consistent with the independent autopsy’s description of wounds, further corroborating the physical trauma she suffered.
