Life can be unpredictable, painful, and lonely at times. For four years, I went through dialysis—a life-saving treatment that drained me physically and emotionally—without seeing my family even once. The loneliness was heavy, a constant reminder that not everyone we expect to be there will show up. But sometimes, life surprises you in unexpected ways. For me, that surprise came in the form of a biker—a man I barely knew, who chose to be present when my own family didn’t.
Dialysis is more than just a medical procedure. It’s four hours or more, multiple times a week, connected to a machine that does the work your kidneys can no longer do. The physical toll is immense: exhaustion, nausea, and the constant fear of complications. But the emotional toll is often worse.
